In this week’s host feature, we dive into the world of Andrea Keller, a property owner who runs a charming log cabin nestled in the lush surroundings of Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Andrea shares her story of how she got started in the short-term rental market and what makes her cabin stand out for guests.

1. How did you first get started in short-term rentals?
I was looking for something unique to invest in and did a lot of online research.
The idea of owning a short-term rental came up, and I decided to give it a shot!
2. What are your biggest goals with owning short-term rentals (STRs)?
My main goal is to grow our passive income so that my family and I can spend more time together.
I’d also love to own multiple properties across the country someday.
3. What obstacles and hardships did you face as you started this journey? How did you overcome them?
So far, I’ve been lucky and haven’t faced any major obstacles.
4. Describe the overall theme or vibe of your property. What inspired this design?
Our cabin is a mountain log retreat, surrounded by lush trees and greenery.
It’s the perfect spot for guests looking to escape and unwind in nature.
The theme just came naturally from the setting—we wanted to embrace the warmth and coziness that comes with mountain living.
5. What unique amenities or features set your property apart from others?
We have a stone wood fireplace that’s great for cozy evenings, a pool table for some friendly competition, and a hot tub on the wrap-around porch.
The cabin itself offers a peaceful retreat, but it also has modern amenities to keep guests comfortable.

6. How did you select the decor and amenities to create a memorable experience for your guests?
Honestly, I bought the cabin with all the furniture already included!
But I’m always looking for little touches to enhance the experience.
7. What feedback have you received from guests about your property? What do they love most?
The feedback has been wonderful so far.
One unique thing is that almost every guest mentions they’ve spotted a black bear at some point during their stay.
It adds a bit of adventure to the experience!
In fact, someone recently got engaged on the porch, which was a lovely surprise.
8. What issues have you had with your property, if any? How do you solve these problems?
One recurring issue is with the hot tub covers—bears have been known to jump into the hot tub, so we’ve had to replace the covers a few times!
It’s a bit of a hassle, but also makes for a fun story.
9. Can you share a memorable guest experience that highlights the impact of your design or hospitality choices?
A couple got engaged on our porch just a few weeks ago!
It was such a special moment, and I’m glad the cabin could be part of their big day.
10. What do you enjoy most about being a short-term rental host?
I love having a beautiful place that I can share with my friends and other guests.
It feels rewarding to provide a place where people can relax and make memories.
11. What tips would you give to other hosts looking to enhance their properties?
Definitely hire a property manager if you can.
It takes a lot of the stress off, and they can help maintain a higher standard for guests.
